Word came down the trunk again. Ratatoskr, who runs between the eagle at the crown and the serpent at the roots, carried this one past the harbour and on down, to where the World-Tree drinks from the well beneath it.
Here wRATR is sunk into the roots and held fast. Each week a pot is poured in at the crown and runs down to everyone rooted below, each taking the share their stake gives them. Nothing is locked: leave whenever you like, and the roots never close around you.
What follows is the Roots as they work. The steps are plain. They are meant to be read with a wallet open.
The Roots at a glance #
Yggdrasil Roots is a staking pool on Alephium. You stake wRATR and are paid in wRATR.
- Stake wRATR into the pool.
- Earn a share of each week's pot, in proportion to your stake, for every moment you are in.
- Unstake any part of it, instantly. There is no cooldown and no unbonding.
- Claim your rewards as wRATR, or compound them into your stake.
The page never holds a key and never custodies anything. Every action is a transaction your own wallet signs, and the pool contract keeps the record.
The pool's live figures, including what is staked, this week's pot and the rate they imply, are on the stake site itself, read from the contract. This chapter does not repeat them.
What you need #
wRATR on Alephium #
The Roots take only wRATR on Alephium: RATR, wrapped one for one by the Ratatoskr Bridge. Chapter II covers the ways to get RATR, and Chapter VI covers bringing it across. wRATR held on another chain bridges to Alephium the same way.
A little ALPH #
Every Alephium transaction pays a little ALPH for gas, and your first stake also places a small ALPH deposit (see The ledger deposit). Chapter VII covers getting ALPH.
A group 0 address #
Alephium splits addresses into groups, and the pool lives in group 0. Stake from a group 0 address only (see Group 0 addresses only). The stake page tells you when the connected address is in a different group. Moving wRATR between your own addresses is an ordinary Alephium transfer, nothing to do with the bridge.
Stake #
- Connect an Alephium wallet and approve the connection.
- Type the amount of wRATR to stake.
- Sign. Your stake and your share of the pool appear on the page.
You earn from the moment your stake lands, and only from then: a new stake never shares in rewards that ran before it arrived. Add to your stake at any time; each addition earns from the moment it lands.
How rewards run down #
The pool is funded each week. Each funding is spread evenly over the week that follows and runs out continuously, by the chain's clock. At every moment it is divided among everyone staked, share for share: a stake twice the size earns twice as much.
- Rewards come only from wRATR paid in. The pool cannot mint. It pays out what it was funded with and nothing more.
- A top-up mid-week carries the rest along. Whatever had not yet run down is folded into the new week, so nothing is stranded.
- Each week's pot streams until that week ends. Rewards accrue while a pot is streaming. Staked wRATR is never touched by the stream.
- Rewards and stakes are kept apart. Rewards are paid only from the funded pot, never from anyone's stake, and the contract checks after every payout that it still holds every stake and every unpaid reward.
What you have earned sits in your record in the pool and stays there, claimable, for as long as you leave it. There is nothing to check in for.
Unstake #
- Type the amount of wRATR to take out, up to your whole stake.
- Sign. The wRATR is back in your wallet in the same transaction.
Unstaking is instant. There is no cooldown, no unbonding period and no exit fee. Rewards earned up to that moment stay in your record and remain claimable after you leave.
Claim or compound #
Claim #
Claiming sends everything you have earned to your wallet as wRATR, up to the moment the claim lands. Claim whenever you like, whether you are still staked or have already left.
Compound #
Compounding moves everything you have earned into your stake instead, so it earns alongside the rest from then on. No wRATR leaves the pool. It is optional: your rewards accrue every second either way.
The ledger deposit #
Your first stake opens a record for your address in the pool's ledger. Alephium asks for a small ALPH deposit to open any such record, and the stake page shows the amount before you sign. You pay it once, when the record opens.
It is a deposit, not a fee. It comes back to you in the same transaction that closes your record, and the record closes once you have nothing staked and nothing left to claim. If you unstake everything while rewards are still owed, the record stays open to hold them; claim, and the rewards and the deposit come home together.
What a pause means #
The pool can be closed to new wRATR. While it is, staking and compounding stop, since both add to stakes. Nothing else changes.
- Unstaking always works. The contract has no path that pauses it.
- Claiming always works. The same is true of claims.
- Rewards keep running. A pause does not touch the stream; positions keep earning through it.
The stake page says when the pool is closed to new deposits.
Verify before you trust #
The official pool contract is linked in the stake site's footer, with its page on the Alephium explorer. The address your wallet shows on a signing prompt should be that one. It is never a deposit address: nothing in the Roots asks you to send coins to an address.
The pool cannot mint, and no one but you can move your stake. The role that funds the pool can add rewards and close it to new deposits; it has no withdrawal, no rescue and no drain, and no path to anyone's staked wRATR.
